This week in focus
On Child Development and technology
There have been ongoing discussions about the merit (or lack thereof) of technology on human development from early times - even writing was viewed as potentially diminishing the ability to develop a core aspect of learning: memory.
Through the introduction of television in learning envirnmonments in the 1960s, through to modern AI intrusion, the list and concerns continue. Yet there remains something that is not only ‘new’, but serenely different in the very way in which the human being interects. Increasingly, the long story-time around the fire has progressively been replaced with ever shorter ‘bite-sized’ narratives. I am even conscious of this in my newsletters, which I persistently strive to ‘shorten’ to the essential characteristics.
The child’s (and adult’s, for that matter) most important developmental characteristics are, as mentioned by Steiner (amongst numerous others) includes the development of the Will, the Heart, and the Head (in that order). Unless we strive to develop character through one’s engagement (in other words, through CONNECTIONS), all is an half-hearted attempt… and even that word says much: an ‘half-hearted’ attempt shows that the Heart, one’s feeling life, is diminished in quality, and the very human connections we were striving to built become deficient.
Similarly, cognitive functioning is first and foremost (again as indicated by Steiner amongst others) is a willed activity: the fortitude to persevere in tasks that remain challenging (even if at times ‘boring’). Learning is not about being entertained, but rather the ability to draw out of oneself a depth of engagement that transforms work into play (as Tomberg would write).
Parents have it tough in striving to do the right thing by their children - and so do teachers in schools striving to engage young people with activities and insights that they themselves need to come to, despite the all too many bureaucratic interferences.

Meditation through Tarot
Meditation climaxes in a transformed conscious experience leading to mystical union or what is called Samadhi in the Eastern tradition. Tarot shows a path towards this metamorphosis of consciousness.

Spiritual Formation
Personal Development has traditionally focussed on spiritual formation. In the manner that I work, I include practices inclusive of imagery and meditation. If you are interested in finding out more, please be in contact.
Following an initial consultation, deepening work requires commitment for a once-a-month meeting for either 6 or 12 months (renewable if desired).

Text: Umberco Eco’s The Island of the Day Before
Umberto Eco (together with John Deely) are two of the most important philosophers and semioticians that span the latter part of the 20th century and into the early parts of the 21st. Umberto Eco has also written a number of fiction books that are each exceptional pieces of literature, infused with historical, psychological, and philosophical content. The Island of the Day Before is set around the time when the setting of longitude was at its peak. The book provides us with opportunities for geography as well as scientific historical understanding.
9:30 – 11:30 BOOK – Umberto Eco The Island of the Day Before
12:30 – 2:30 ART – focussed on Geometry and Geography
Please note that the book is around 500 pages, and will require reading (or listening) to approximately 50 pages per week. It is NOT expected that all words are understood - especially as the author is purposefully seeking to (at times) bamboozle the reader.
You will also need, for the geometry, around 2-3 A3 (or 6 A4) sheets of thin cardboard (around 270-300 gsm paper), and a drawing book. We will be constructing a cube-dodecahedral inversion solid, as well as drawing geography directly or indirectly arising from the novel.

ASEA
Redox Supplement & Renu28
Much research has emerged over the last two decades on the functions of redox processes in maintaining cellular health. ASEA products delivers redox molecules that assist in this very process!
800% Increase in Glutathione Efficacy
Researchers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) performed in vitro tests to determine the antioxidant efficiency of the body’s most powerful natural antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD).
The results showed significant, well-defined effects. The cell extracts exposed to ASEA Redox Supplement exhibited 8 times the antioxidant efficiency for GPx, and 5 times antioxidant efficacy for SOD. This efficiency was evident especially at low-level concentrations of ASEA Redox Supplement, tested down to 2.5% of full strength.
