This week in focus
Rudolf Steiner on Love
Love is so often and so centrally featured in Steiner’s writings and lectures that it remains challenging to capture some of its key characteristics…
Perhaps first and foremost is a quote from his central book Philosophy of Freedom, in which he writes (towards the end of the first chapter):
‘It is said that love makes us blind to the failings of the loved one. But this can be expressed the other way round, namely, that it is just for the good qualities that love opens the eyes. Many pass by these good qualities without noticing them. One, however, perceives them, and just because he does, love awakens in his soul. What else has he done but made a mental picture of what hundreds have failed to see? Love is not theirs, because they lack the mental picture.’
The term ‘mental picture’ is here an unfortunate (by which I mean ‘limited’) translation of the German Vorstellung - Steiner uses it in its full philosophical impetus: it is an individualised concept that brings to the fore the very meaningfulness of that which is being perceived. In semiotic terms, it remains the object of the action of semiosis.
And it is here that Steiner directly mentions, as well as in other places, the very importance of Love in not only deepening understanding, but in the very process of knowledge-formation… an action that has an infinite dimension.
In Methods of Spiritual Research, Steiner mentions that ‘people will be prepared to admit that the faculty of memory can be developed into a power for acquiring knowledge. But perhaps the more strict scientists will not be able to accept the second faculty for acquiring knowledge which I have to describe. And yet, despite this, it is a real power for acquiring knowledge, though not as it appears in everyday life, but when it is developed. This is the power of Love.’
In order to truly see something - or someone - one needs to open one’s eyes of the heart. To see and hear the beauty of that which one is beholding within one’s reflective soul, so to partake of their being unveils - which is the Ancient Greek word used for Truth (Alethea = ‘unveil’) - elements of the essence and characteristics of that which is being held and that henceforth, through the process of semiosis, brings the beholden to wholeness within one’s own reflective being.
Love, of course, is the highest of the three virtues that St Paul speaks of in his letter to the Corinthians… and in the collection of Steiner’s lectures published as Rosicrucian Esotericism, calls to reflection that ‘in many respects the purpose of incarnation on Earth is to forge bonds of ever greater warmth and love’.

ASEA
Redox Supplement & Renu28
Much research has emerged over the last two decades on the functions of redox processes in maintaining cellular health. ASEA products delivers redox molecules that assist in this very process!
800% Increase in Glutathione Efficacy
Researchers at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) performed in vitro tests to determine the antioxidant efficiency of the body’s most powerful natural antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD).
The results showed significant, well-defined effects. The cell extracts exposed to ASEA Redox Supplement exhibited 8 times the antioxidant efficiency for GPx, and 5 times antioxidant efficacy for SOD. This efficiency was evident especially at low-level concentrations of ASEA Redox Supplement, tested down to 2.5% of full strength.
