This week in focus
Our Piscean Age and Year of the Horse

If we consider the visual position of the Sun relative the background Stars and constellations, we are still very much in the Age of Pisces. In fact, we are still there for another 350 years or so. In the context of the cycle of approximately 2160 years for each age, we are of course nearing its last leg and the dawning of the new Age can be sensed. Let us not assume, however, that this means that the dawn is the Sunrise: the Age of Aquarius, which will itself last 2160 years, is not yet present.

In a similar manner (if for entirely different reasons), we are still within the Year of the Snake, and the Horse Year will arise with the second New Moon following the Summer Solstice, which will occur around the 17th of February (as the Moon does not rigidly obey the dictates of our calendar, the date changes every year). Unlike ‘Western’ astrology, the Chinese year reflects Jupiter ‘s 12-year cycle.

This year proves to be a rapid year of blessings and moving challenges, with numerous seeds that have already been sown bearing rapid movement and fruit. It is also likely to bring to light certain elements that are to be exposed or trampled upon.

Merging Sage and Fourhares Newsletters

The Newsletter subscription links (that last week did not seem to work for everyone) have been triple checked and appear to work. I have also merged the existing subscriber list of my Newsletters as I move over to this new version during January, allowing an overlap to ensure everything works for the various systems and platforms people have. Apologies for anyone who may receive two copies over the next few weeks... this will be fixed by January’s end.

As I reorganise my online presence, I am making my 'work' space cleaner on https://sage.fourhares.com, and my 'archive' content more obvious on my older site at https://fourhares.com/main.html - expect to see some changes thereon.

These Workshop–Retreats combines elements of wellness, neuroscience, and of course meditative practices. This includes elements from neuroscientific research and other investigative fields; provides efficient techniques and methods of meditation; and develops a framework to establish and maintain regular practice. Using a simplified neuro-anatomical model through which to deepen meditative practices, the retreat space supports participants in our personal journeys.

In case you missed it

Spiritual Formation through Direction

In North America, Spiritual Formation and Direction is at times called Spiritual Counselling, or Personal Journeying. I have been encouraged to expand my Spiritual Direction to include online options. For those interested, please be in contact by using the contact form link above.

Cost is AUD 260 per session (approx. USD 175 | EURO 150), with a commitment to six or twelve sessions following an initial consultation. Payment options include direct deposit (for Aus.) or through Credit card / PayPal.

Book a session and see where it leads...

Personal Development has traditionally focussed on spiritual formation through what has been referred to as Spiritual Direction. In the manner that I work, I include practices inclusive of imagery and meditation. If you are interested in finding out more, please be in contact.

Following that initial consultation, those desiring to pursue deepening their work commit for a once-a-month meeting for either 6 or 12 months (renewable if desired).

More details are in the pdf below, which in part reads:

Spiritual Formation is first and foremost a journey, not a destination. This journey remains personal, and as any aspect of life, is unique, though sharing characteristics with the journeys others have travelled. It is in recognising and sharing the signposts, bringing awareness to aspects of a map whose reality others have explored, that what is called spiritual direction may be beneficial. The journey remains, however, personal as development unfolds according to one’s own steps upon a path created anew and afresh.

Spiritual direction provides us with a means to deepen our relationship with the divine, and to learn and grow in our own spiritual life and formation. A spiritual director is someone who is able to accompany us, in part only, within that journey. As a director, I see my part of the journey as bringing some guides or signposts into view, making use of symbolic tools that have long been used so assist you in taking some new sejourneying steps.

Home Schooling Teens - Balingup area

2026 Term 1 - February - March

12-17 y.o. Homeschooling - 8 weeks resumes in February

Western Culture is steeped within a Christian framework that is, increasingly, being caricatured through some of its historical failings. Yet to understand much of the artwork, our holidays, even how it is that we have weekends as non-working days (at least for some of us), to partake and understand the foundational texts is important. We will read through the Gospel of St Matthew (and where relevant, cross-reference to Greek philosophy, mesapotamian astronomy/astrology, and their respective developments over the course of the ensuing centuries). I recommend the Jerusalem Bible as a good translation for the new Testament.

Similarly, Eastern culture has heavily been infused with streams emanating from the Upanishads, and one of the most influential line is through the Advaitist tradition through Sankaracharya's AtmaBhoda - a versed book that, like many others in the tradition, holds in condensed form a vast worldview and way of being.

9:30 - 11:30 BOOKS - Gospel of St Matthew - Jerusalem Bible translation (available as a pdf here - Matthew only), and the Atma Bodha (available as a pdf here).

12:30 - 2:30 ART - focussed on Geometry and astronomy

The Empress – Who is she? What is she?

No symbol has single meaning, or it would cease being symbolic. Yet, (as I write in my Reading the Marseille Tarot), ‘symbols, though having no fixity in meaning, do not lack precision’ – so what are this card’s unfixed yet precise meanings?

In Meditations on the Tarot, Tomberg writes:

The Major Arcana of the Tarot are authentic symbols. They conceal and reveal their sense at one and the same time according to the depth of meditation. That which they reveal are not secrets, i.e. things hidden by human will, but are arcana, which is something quite different. An arcanum is that which it is necessary to "know" in order to be fruitful in a given domain of spiritual life. It is that which must be actively present in our consciousness — or even in our subconscious — in order to render us capable of making discoveries, engendering new ideas, conceiving of new artistic subjects. In a word, it makes us fertile in our creative pursuits, in whatever domain of spiritual life. An arcanum is a "ferment" or an "enzyme" whose presence stimulates the spiritual and the psychic life of man. And it is symbols which are the bearers of these.

Who, or of what, does the Empress possibly represent? and, finding answer(s), whereforth are we lead….
